When can you confirm a dog pregnancy?
Hi, I know you can get an ultrasound at 4 weeks pregnancy, but was wondering if there was any earlier detection?
I am not a byb, I breed only when I want to keep a show puppy, you can ultra sound at 4 weeks I’ve done it before, I was just wondering if there had been any advances in early pregnancy detection, my bitch is champion sired and has been bred with a champion male so please be careful who you are rude to in your answers
thanks
What ever you do don’t palpate the tummy yourself. If you do so too early you can hurt/injure the pups and negatively affect their growth.
There is a great book that will give you all the info you need. I read it when my bitch was pregnant and almost had a heartattack. There is so much going on inside her!!
Get the book or loan a copy and it will answer all your questions and some that you have not thought of. Cant remeber what they say about an early pregnancy test but do remember that you should not try feel for the pups until she is atleast 40 days pregnant.
The book is called…Book of the Bitch

Oh and I had the ultrasound done on my mommy dog – WOW what and experience…I saw the pups hearts beating and could make each one out individually.
