i’m thinking about getting a new dog? what breed?
i use to have and alaskan husky but he died about a year ago.
so now i’m looking to get a new dog (i’m a dog person) but because i go to school AND have a job i can’t spend so much time on activities like i did with the husky, so I’ll need one with a little less needs. how ever i’m not really looking for a lap dog, or a relatively small dog, it has to be capable to take long trips up mountains (when a bit older) and be used as a sled dog perhaps? at least it has to be able do carry some weight. i have a “dog backpack” ski equipment etc.
got any suggestions for a breed? and as a side note, my sister is allergic, but she does not live at home anymore, so it can’t “blow” fur 2-3 times per year like a husky does.
forgot to add:
it wil be a family dog! ![]()
i will not be the only one to take the dog out etc.
both my father and my brother are dog persons aswell
Greater Swiss Mountain Dog?
They shed less, I was going to suggest a Berner, but they’re heavy shedders. They’re a working dog, too and can carry some weight. The GSMD’s talents are tracking, watchdog, guarding, carting (pulling), and competitive obedience.

GSMD -
Is giant, robust, and powerful
Has a short easy-care coat
Prefers that his exercise take the form of carting or sledding or weight-pulling, rather than hard running
Makes a vigilant watchdog, but is usually dependable with people
